![]() Stony Ridge History
The Stony Ridge Cafe was started in July, 1994. It opened as a coffee house serving light breakfasts and pastries. In September of the same year we purchased the business and started incorporating a full breakfast menu. In time it became a favorite local spot as well as a destination for second home owners and visitors.
A dinner menu was added in 2000, and went through several incarnations. The final version became a successful and popular endeavor. We created many fans over the years (thank you!) and had the opportunity to meet and befriend many wonderful people. We were also fortunate for all the amazing people we had the luck to work with.
They all deserve huge kudos for working in such a crazy little shop. Thanks to all those who appreciated the Stony Ridge and contributed to its success.
About the Baehr's
Doug and Dawn Baehr are Lake Tahoe locals of about 15 years. They met and married in Lake Tahoe and now have three children: Nash, age 10, Maia, 6, and Bixby, 3. Dawn graduated from San Diego State University in 1990 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, emphasis in journalism.
In addition to her restaurant experience she has also worked in the graphic arts industry as well as working at various newspapers in both advertising and art departments. Doug is a classically trained chef, graduating in 1989 from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York.
After finishing an internship in Tahoe City at Wolfdale's restaurant, he moved to Tahoe City in 1989. He worked under Douglas Dale at Wolfdale's for six years. The Baehrs started the Stony Ridge Cafe in Tahoma, on the west shore of Lake Tahoe, late in 1994. The restaurant became a popular breakfast spot, as well as having a good run at dinners and cooking classes. The restaurant recently closed in October, 2005, after a long and fulfilling span of eleven years. Doug and Dawn (as well as the kids!) are outdoor enthusiasts, enjoying skiing, bike riding, rock climbing and hiking. |
